Michael has over 20 years experience working with various voluntary and community sector committees and groups. After working as an accountant, Michael acted as a local councillor since 1997 and was also given the honour of acting Mayor of Great Aycliffe Town Council. In addition to this, Michael has completed a course to become a disability equality trainer and has been involved with the Newton Aycliffe Access Task Group and Sedgefield Locality Carers Centre.
