Syd was the founder of Newton Aycliffe's first printing business in 1963 and has always had an interest in community life, acting as a chairman or committee member for numerous organisations. Syd has three sons who have now taken over the family business and run Newton Press (Howarth Ltd). However, Syd still retains an interest and acts as editor/photographer and a consultant for Newton News.
As chairman of the Newton Aycliffe Youth Centre Management committee, president of Woodham Community Centre, a committee member of Governors at Aycliffe Village School and past Chairman and currently vice chairman of the Business Forum, Syd has plenty of business and marketing experience to support him in his director role at PCP.
Syd also has a keen interest in supporting poor countries in West Africa is a trustee of the West Africa Trust and is a member of the Rotary International where he had the privilege of leading the North East as governor in the Rotary's centenary year in 2005.
