Sedgefield Primary Care Counselling Service

Sedgefield Primary Care Counselling Service (SPCCS) has been managed by the Pioneering Care Partnership (PCP) since 2006 and delivers counselling within GP Practices, and community settings across the Sedgefield area.

Appointments are available within GP surgeries across the former Sedgefield Borough area and the service also offers “out of practice” (OOP) appointments during the day, evening and Saturday mornings within the Pioneering Care Centre in Newton Aycliffe.

The Sedgefield Primary Care Counselling Service’s aim is to provide a high quality counselling service to support individuals suffering from mild and moderate health problems including anxiety, depression and stress.

About the Service

The Sedgefield primary care counselling service provides time limited counselling in primary care or community settings which result in positive outcomes for the clients as part of a broader Primary Care Mental Health Services to the adult population (those aged 18 years and over) of County Durham.  Counsellors work with other statutory and non- statutory services in the locality that provide other opportunities to maintain and promote wellbeing and or provide alternative treatment approaches for people who have mild to moderate mental health problems.
The Service is available to people who are aged 18 years and over and will offer one to one counselling sessions.
The length of each session is generally between 50-60 minutes. Normally 6-8 sessions will be offered however on occasion where clients need or the potential for change is identified sessions may be increased to 12. 


How to access the service

Referrals are accepted from Sedgefield GP practices and primary health care teams and the service is usually delivered in the surgery where the client is registered or through a community location.
