Volunteer Case Study

I have volunteered in the Mall Coffee Shop at the Pioneering Care Centre for over 2 years now. I started volunteering as I wanted to return to work after being a full time mum, however my husband became ill and needed my support as his carer.

Volunteering allowed me to have the flexibility I needed to manage my life at home whilst giving me work related experience. My role includes serving customers, preparing food, drinks and buffets and keeping the public areas clean, tidy and fully stocked.

The best thing about volunteering in the Mall Coffee Shop is getting to know and helping the service users, visitors and staff, who have all been very kind and welcoming to me. I have made new friends, learnt new skills including using a till, handling cash, learning how to cook and dealing with the public.

I couldn't imagine not volunteering anymore, I love it as it gets me out of the house doing something I enjoy whilst meeting new people. My confidence has improved too

Carol Gaskarth (Chief Executive) said: Debbie always has a smile on her face and has built up a fantastic relationship with Mall Coffee Shop customers. She is dedicated, reliable, helpful and keen to learn. Her flexble approach and friendly manner are real assets too.

PCP volunteers are invaluable in supporting the organisation to achieve its mission of health, wellbeing and learning for all. I would like to thank all volunteers for their hard work and commitment to PCP, without them we really could not achieve so much!
